The 2011 Regional OLOC Gathering will take place at the LaQuinta Inn & Suites in Tacoma, WA, July 28 - 31. It is structured similarly to a national OLOC gathering.  The event will begin Thursday evening with a welcome and a special program.  Friday morning kicks off with a keynote speech by award-winning author and lesbian historian Lillian Faderman (www.lillianfaderman.net).

Friday and Saturday will be filled with panel discussions, group discussions, presentations and workshops. Friday evening there will be local entertainers and a dance. Saturday evening there will be a banquet and concert.  Lucie Blue Tremblay will be our entertainer for the evening www.luciebluetremblay.com. The event will continue with a program on Sunday morning and conclude by 1 pm. Come prepared to have a good time, learn, share, reconnect with old friends and make new ones.

Our headquarters will be the LaQuinta Inn & Suites in Tacoma. They have offered us a $99/night plus tax room rate for 1-4 in a room with 2 doubles or a king bed (king rooms also have a sleeper sofa). A continental breakfast is included. To get this rate you MUST CALL to make the reservation. The rates are available several days before and after the event as well.

Small refrigerators and microwaves are standard in king rooms and by special request for doubles. Call 253-383-0146 direct and press 6, front desk. (A word of advice: Don’t press #4 for reservations!) Tell them you are with the OLOC Regional Gathering. Or, call 866-527-1498 day-time (EST) only and reference this number: 0685GRLIFQ. If you ask for a handicap room and they say they’re all booked, clarify that all the handicap rooms are being held for our group.

A modest amount of funds has been raised for the purpose of assisting lesbians who could otherwise not attend the 2011 Regional Gathering. Priority will be given to women from within the region (which is defined as Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and British Columbia) but women from outside that area may be able to get funds to cover registration fees. If you would like to apply, please access the forms at www.psoloc.org.  OLOC will take assistance applications until May 1. Applicants will be notified of the outcome by May 20. These early deadlines will enable you to finalize your plans as early as possible.

Thanks to OLOC for this information.

Join Ingrid at the Perfect 10 Date Auction benefiting LBT Health

10-10-10 Perfect 10 Date Auction Funds to benefit LBT Health at YWCA

We would like to invite you to you attend the upcoming second Perfect 10 Date Auction benefiting LBT Health of the YWCA this Sunday.  As many of you know, Ingrid works smartly and tirelessly to fill a gap originally left by the closing of Verbena to bring much needed mammograms, breast exams and pap tests to women in need.   Please come out and support her efforts and support women in our community that need these services.

The event is an auction where you can bid on 'date' packages and enjoy entertainment presented by the featured auctionee's.  Let me explain as I know this has been a little confusing to people.  You bid on the items and win them, not the person that gathered the auction items, sorry :~).

So, for example the lovely Fuschia Foxx, will preform and Fuchsia's date package will be a VIP package to Girl4Girl Seattle and dinner for two at Sur. You can bid on her 'date' package but you do not get to have a date with her...sorry folks!  She just was darling enough to garner the package and will preform for us too!  Still following me?

A just confirmed item to be bid on is an Atlantis Events Mexico Cruise for two!  Now, that is worth either bidding on or coming to see the excitement of who will win it!

Laughter Yoga Classes

For those of you that were able to attend the LBT Rainbow Health Fair we enjoyed a wonderful 'laughter circle'.  Even in the short time we practiced laughing, many of us felt we benefited from practicing laughing and experiencing the joy that laughter brings in any form.  Laughing just makes one feel good!

The Phinney Neighborhood Center offers a laughter yoga class on the 2nd Tuesday's taught by Teresa Verde based on the model that laughter has health benefits.  The Laughter Yoga class provides:

an explanation of the tremendous health benefits, how laughter and humor are highly effective coping mechanisms, the role of laughter in the workplace and even how smiling is beneficial; followed by a joyous laughter session consisting of gentle stretching, yoga-type deep breathing and playful laughter exercises.

Like all Yoga's, Laughter Yoga practices a combination of gentle stretching, yoga-type breathing, chanting and only differs by including laughter exercises. Yoga is a body/mind/spirit connection that leaves you feeling better after the class.  You need to bring to class a willingness to laugh for no reason and water. Check out the article on One Thousand Laughs in The New Yorker August 30th issue.  www.onethousandlaughs.com

Phinney Laughter Club $5 class fee

2nd Tuesday of the month at 7 pm

Phinney Neighborhood Center

6532 Phinney Ave North, Seattle.

No pre-registration required.

Just drop in when you feel the need for more laughter in your life.

'Our sessions last approximately 50 minutes, beginning with a brief introduction and followed by gentle stretching, yoga type deep breathing and a series of playful laughter exercises'.

Mammography Coach at Wildrose Bar on December 11th

We are excited to be having our second LBT focused screening at the Wildrose on December 11th.  Last year we had so much fun as it was the same day as the Santa Claus Pub Crawl.  There were hundreds of happy Santa Clauses dressed in a range of outfits wandering on the streets of Capitol Hill.  It added to a very festive day and this year we should experience the same fun as it looks like the Santa Claus Pub Crawl is scheduled the second Saturday's in December.

We served 16 clients last year and we would love to serve more this year!  We offered a small survey to find the topics people were interested in and found they were: health insurance, affordable housing, employment programs, educational opportunities, LBT health and nutrition.  We will repeat the survey this year adding some additional questions that will help us to serve you better.  It will be interesting to see the difference a year makes.

We thank Martha and Shelley from the Wildrose, for their generosity and for opening their doors for us.  It is the community members like Martha and Shelley that support our program so we can support our community.  We look forward to seeing you on December 11th.
